For testing of vaginal pathogens: Candida albicans, Gardnerella vaginalis, and Trichomonas vaginalis
Vaginal / lateral vaginal wall
Incyte swab (preferred collection device) and SurePath or Thin Prep vial, Uniswab is acceptable
Aseptically remove sterile swab from package. Collect specimen by vigorously swabbing the lateral vaginal wall. Aseptically remove cap from vial. Place swab in transport medium and break off swab against rim of the tube. Replace cap. Close tightly. Include patient name and second unique identifier on vial.
Complete the Incyte Diagnostics requisition with the patient's demographics and relevant clinical history. Label specimen container with the patient's full first and last name, second unique identifier, and specimen source/site.
Specimen is stable at room temperature for up to 21 days. Additional testing can be added for up to 21 days after initial testing is performed.
Unlabeled specimens; specimens in incorrect fixative (such as formalin), or expired vials. Excess lubricant can invalidate the specimen.
