General Information

Use this mnemonic when only Cryoglobulin requested.


This assay detects the presence of a cryoglobulin, and if present, provides a semi quantitative estimate of the amount. Cryoglobulins are associated with a variety of clinical conditions including: myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, mixed essential cryoglobulinemia, systemic lupus erythematosus, infectious mononucleosis, cytomegalovirus infections, acute viral hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, post streptococcal glomerulonephritis, infective endocarditis, leprosy, kalaazar, and tropical splenomegaly syndrome.

 Specimen must be maintained at 37°C

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

1. Tube must remain at 37c  
2. Allow blood to clot at 37c   
3. Centrifuge at 37c “it is very important that the specimen remain at 37c until after separation of serum from red blood cells. 
4. Aliquot serum into a plastic tube.
