Incyte swab, vaginal pathogens, parvum, urealyticum
Vaginal / cervical
Incyte swab (preferred collection device) and SurePath or Thin Prep vial.
|Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions||
Aseptically remove sterile swab from package. Collect specimen by vigorously swabbing the lateral vaginal wall. Aseptically remove cap from vial. Place swab in transport medium and break off swab against rim of the tube. Replace cap. Close tightly. Write patient information on vial.

Specimen is stable at room temperature for up to 21 days. Additional testing can be added for up to 21 days after initial testing is performed.
|Unacceptable Specimen Conditions||
Unlabeled specimens. Specimens in incorrect fixative (such as formalin). Excess lubricant can ruin the specimen.
Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is used to identify the species Ureaplasma parvum and Ureaplasma urealyticum. If speciation is needed for clinical management, further testing needs to be requested.
Specimen is retained for 21 days from initial testing.
Additional testing can be performed on specimens up to 21 days after submission. If speciation is needed for clinical management, further testing needs to be requested.
